Think of your body as a smartphone; NAD+ is the battery power. Low NAD+ is like a phone on low battery mode—slow and struggling. With enough NAD+, your body runs smoothly, just like a fully charged phone!
NAD or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a special coenzyme in our bodies that helps keep us healthy. It is made up of two tiny parts called nucleotides, one that has adenine and the other that has nicotinamide, which is a form of vitamin B3.
Why does it matter?
As we grow older, the amount of NAD+ in our bodies decreases. This is important because low levels of NAD+ has been linked to age-related diseases and decreased lifespan. When we have enough NAD+, it can help us stay healthy. For example, not getting enough niacin (the vitamin that helps make NAD) can lead to a serious condition called pellagra, which causes issues like skin rashes, diarrhea, mental problems, and can even be deadly [17]
